DETROIT — The father and stepmother of a 13-year-old boy were charged on February 20, 2015 with torture and child abuse in an investigation that began last summer when he was discovered among boxes in his father's basement after a highly publicized 11-day search by Detroit police. The Bothuells are accused of forcing him to stay in the basement, denying him food and demanding that he follow a twice-a-day regimen of 100 push-ups, 200 sit-ups and thousands of revolutions on an elliptical machine.
